Canada Ontario Job Grant

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) provides direct financial support for employers wishing to invest in their workforce through third-party training. The program helps employers invest in workforce development opportunities that will increase employees’ in-demand skill sets, leading to improved productivity and competitiveness.


Organizations with fewer than 100 employees: Up to 83% of eligible training costs to a maximum of $15,000 per trainee.
Organizations with more than 100 employees: Up to 50% of eligible training costs to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee.

Business Eligibility

Private for-profits, nonprofits, employer consortiums, and First Nations band councils can apply for COJG training grants. Currently, there are no restrictions based on an applicant’s revenue, incorporation, exporting capabilities, or number of employees. However, to be considered eligible, employees must:

  • Employ the individual selected for training
  • Be licensed to operate in Ontario
  • Be applying for training that is delivered in Ontario and is related to a job that is also located in Ontario
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act
  • Maintain appropriate Workplace Safety and Insurance Board or private workplace safety insurance coverage
  • Have adequate third party general liability insurance as advised by its insurance broker
  • Comply with all applicable federal and provincial human rights legislation, regulations, and any other relevant standards

Trainee Eligibility

  • All people who are residents of Ontario and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and meet the eligibility requirements below are eligible to participate in training funded through the COJG
  • Employed individuals must be identified by their employer
  • Unemployed individuals must also be sponsored by an employer, demonstrated through a permanent or conditional offer of employment
  • An individual must not be participating in full-time training or education or any other government training intervention that offers funding support for same tuition, books or other training related costs
  • Majority shareholders are not eligible to participate in training funded through COJG

  • Forklift Training
  • Communications Training
  • Safeguarding of Machinery
  • Effective Cleaning and Sanitation
  • Advanced Machine Design and Analysis Custom Training
  • Negotiation Training
  • Development of Safety Culture/Essential Safety Skills
  • Sales and Leadership Training (for non-senior management)
  • International Trade & Customs Broker License
  • Equipment: Upgraded Skill & Productivity Enhancement Training
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification
  • Warehouse Management Training
  • Industrial Compliance and Control
  • Mechanical and Electrical Design Training

Eligible third-party training programs must demonstrate how they will:

  • Adjust an employee’s role within the company
  • Impact an employee’s job title
  • Increase an employee’s salary
  • Provide the applicant with new knowledge and abilities
  • Create new employment opportunities in Ontario

Ineligible Training

  • Product vendor training associated with the basic operations and implementation of the product or service
  • Business consulting services
  • Trainees who are in senior management positions (large organizations with over 500 employees)
